SASA Arrests Two for Illegal Revenue Collection in Anambra

The Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA) has arrested two suspects over alleged illegal revenue collection in parts of the state as part of its ongoing crackdown on extortion and unauthorised levies.

The suspects, identified as Michael Uwaoma and Ndubuisi Aniukwu, were arrested at Mgbuka Obosi and Umusiome Junction in Nkpor, both in Idemili North Local Government Area, where they were allegedly extorting traders and commercial operators.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the agency’s spokesperson, Karen James, who said the operation was in line with SASA’s mandate to eliminate illegal revenue practices across the state.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations indicated that Aniukwu acted under the instruction of one Onyekwelu, who allegedly set daily remittance targets for illegal collections.

The suspects were subsequently arraigned before a magistrate court and remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of the case.

The court granted bail under strict conditions, including a N100,000 bail bond, a N300,000 fine, and the provision of a verified Level 17 civil servant as surety. The case was adjourned to June 3, 2026, for hearing.

SASA reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on extortion and illegal levies, saying the agency remains committed to protecting traders and ensuring lawful business operations across Anambra State.

It urged members of the public to report cases of harassment or illegal collections to the appropriate authorities for prompt action.
