The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has elected a new state executive committee in Bauchi State, with retired civil servant Shu’aibu Abdullahi Dankama emerging as the party’s state chairman.
Dankama and more than 30 executive members were returned through a consensus arrangement at the party’s state congress held over the weekend in Bauchi. The exercise was supervised by S. A. Audu and the party’s Deputy National Secretary, Hauwa Yusuf, who represented the national leadership to ensure compliance with party guidelines.
Dankama, a former Permanent Secretary at the Government House in Bauchi, pledged that the new executive would strengthen party structures from the polling unit level to the state level to improve the party’s competitiveness.
Speaking on behalf of the new executives, he promised to promote fairness, discipline, internal democracy and inclusiveness, while prioritising youth participation, women’s empowerment and the inclusion of persons with disabilities.
He also thanked party leaders and members for what he described as a transparent and peaceful congress conducted between April 9 and 11, 2026, and called for unity among members. “Every growing political party experiences disagreements and differing opinions. This is not a weakness but a sign of vitality,” he said.
Dankama, who succeeds Hassan Haruna, reaffirmed loyalty to the party’s national leadership under David Mark and said efforts would be intensified to reposition the ADC as a credible political alternative in the state.
Also speaking, former Peoples Democratic Party national leader Suleiman Nazif Gamawa described the congress as a demonstration of the party’s organisational strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Nazif Gamawa said the party’s members were energised and united, expressing confidence that the ADC could expand its influence and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress through broader alliances with other opposition parties.
