: PDP Chieftain Warns Wike Weakens Party’s 2027 Chances

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has warned that the party may struggle to unseat Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election if Nyesom Wike continues to serve as its national leader while supporting the president.

Ulasi, speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Thursday, said the situation reflected contradictions within the party and cautioned he could leave the PDP if the issue was not clarified.

“I don’t see my party as presently constituted challenging Tinubu with Wike as national leader,” he said, adding that unresolved concerns over Wike’s political alignment could influence his continued membership of the party.

He argued that Wike could not effectively function as PDP national leader while supporting the administration of President Tinubu, describing the arrangement as “very unconstructive.”

Ulasi also questioned what role Wike would play if another candidate emerged as the PDP presidential flag-bearer ahead of the 2027 election, noting that the party required clarity on his position.

He warned that the party’s next meeting could be his last if satisfactory explanations were not provided, stressing that he could not remain part of what he described as a contradictory process.

Ulasi further disclosed that Peter Obi had visited him several times this year, most recently after an appearance at Coal City University in Enugu. He said their discussions reflected Obi’s vision for the country but stopped short of announcing any political alignment. 🇳🇬

Reflecting on his longstanding ties to the PDP, Ulasi said he was present at the party’s formation alongside late former Vice-President Alex Ekueme and other founding members, which explained his reluctance to leave.

He added, however, that if he eventually exits the party, he would not join another political platform but would instead remain active as a private political consultant.
