Sowore, Malami Clash at Abuja Court

Activist Omoyele Sowore on Monday confronted former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, at the Federal High Court in Abuja in an exchange that has drawn widespread attention.

The incident, captured in a viral video, showed Sowore addressing Malami over his ongoing legal troubles, drawing comparisons to his role during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“You see how it feels now to be persecuted,” Sowore said. “When you were with Buhari, you were bragging… now the system is dealing with you.”

The confrontation, which took place within the court premises, attracted attention from lawyers and other observers, some of whom reacted with mild amusement.

Sowore also invited Malami to join his political movement, offering him an orange beret associated with his Revolution Now campaign. Despite his criticism, he acknowledged Malami’s composure during the exchange.

Responding briefly, Malami maintained confidence in his legal position, stating, “I can never be down… I have been attending all my court sittings. I will keep attending, and I remain strong.”

The former minister is currently facing legal action from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Department of State Services over allegations including money laundering, unlawful possession of firearms, and illegal asset acquisition.

Malami is also contesting a court order for the temporary forfeiture of some of his assets, arguing that they were lawfully acquired.

The exchange has since generated reactions online, with many commentators weighing in on the broader implications for Nigeria’s justice system and political accountability.
