Amnesty Condemns Boko Haram Attack in Adamawa

Amnesty International has condemned the killing of at least 29 people in an attack by suspected Boko Haram militants on Guyaku community in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, left several residents dead while others were reported missing as villagers fled the area in panic.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Monday, the rights group described the attack as “vicious” and raised concern over the continued targeting of civilians in the region.

According to Amnesty International, armed assailants stormed the community and shot residents at close range, causing widespread casualties.

The organisation also reported that attackers set fire to homes, churches, classrooms, and motorcycles during the assault, further worsening the destruction.

Eyewitness accounts cited by the group indicated that bodies were found scattered across the village following the attack, with some elderly residents unable to escape.

“Older people who could not flee were slaughtered inside their homes,” Amnesty said in its statement.

The organisation also noted that beyond killings, armed groups in the region continue to abduct women and girls while looting and destroying property in affected communities.

It warned that the persistence of such attacks underscores the need for stronger protection of civilians and accountability for perpetrators.

Amnesty called for justice for victims and urged authorities to ensure that families affected by the violence receive adequate support and reparations.
