Police Foil Thuggery Attack, Arrest Six in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has foiled an attempted attack on shops in the Gyadi-Gyadi area of Kano State following a violent clash involving suspected rival thugs, locally known as ‘Yan Daba.

Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said officers responded swiftly after a distress call at about 1:20 p.m. on Monday, reporting that groups of suspected hoodlums were mobilising for a confrontation.

He said patrol teams were immediately deployed to the area, where they met an ongoing clash between rival groups. During the violence, the suspects reportedly vandalised an ambulance and attempted to extend the attack to nearby locations.

The situation escalated when the attackers turned on responding police officers, throwing stones and using dangerous weapons. The police said the attack was professionally repelled.

According to the Command, the suspects later fled towards Farm Centre Market, where they allegedly attempted to break into shops and loot goods before reinforcements arrived and dispersed them.

Six suspects were arrested in connection with the incident, while others escaped. Normalcy has since been restored in the affected areas, the police said.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers for their swift response, describing their conduct as gallant and professional in preventing further breakdown of law and order.

He warned that the Command would not tolerate thuggery or disturbances in the state and urged parents and guardians to caution their children.

“The Command will not tolerate any form of thuggery or disturbance of public peace in Kano State,” he said, adding that anyone found culpable would be arrested and prosecuted.

The police also confirmed that investigations are ongoing to track down fleeing suspects and identify those responsible for instigating the clash.
