Police Recover Stolen Vehicle Using Tracking Technology in Ilorin

The Kwara State Police Command has recovered a Toyota Matrix reportedly stolen earlier on Wednesday in Ilorin, following the use of advanced tracking technology.

In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said the vehicle was taken around 11:00 a.m. from a parking space at Mandate Market in Ilorin.

She explained that operatives at the Anti-Car Theft Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department acted swiftly after receiving the report at about 2:00 p.m., activating an integrated tracking and immobilisation system linked to the vehicle.

The system enabled real-time geolocation tracking and remote shutdown of the engine, which led to the recovery of the car along the Ilorin–Jebba Road later the same day.

According to the police, the vehicle was found abandoned by the roadside after the suspects allegedly attempted to evade detection by changing its registration number. The original plate number was recovered nearby.

The command said the vehicle has been secured at the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible.

It reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led policing and the use of modern technology to combat crime and protect lives and property across the state.
