The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has renewed his call for the adoption of community policing as a key strategy to address insecurity across Nigeria.
The monarch made the appeal at a luncheon organised by the Olubadan Palace in honour of participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC 19, 2026) of the Institute for Security Studies, Bwari, Abuja, who were on a study tour of Oyo State.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, the Olubadan said community policing would significantly help in reducing crime to the barest minimum, not only in Ibadanland but across the country.
He explained that the engagement was designed to appreciate the visiting security participants and provide a platform for exchange of ideas on governance, security, and development, while also showcasing Oyo State’s role as a leading centre of cultural and administrative significance.
Oba Ladoja also urged Nigerians who have passed through Ibadan at different stages of their careers not to forget the city, encouraging them to contribute to its unity and continued development.
Leader of the delegation and Director of Studies, Mrs Ibrahim Halimah Zanna, commended the Olubadan and his council for their hospitality, describing the reception as a reflection of the warm and accommodating nature of Ibadan people.
She prayed for the monarch’s continued good health, wisdom, and a peaceful reign.
The event was attended by prominent traditional rulers and dignitaries, including members of the Olubadan-in-Council such as Oba Tajudeen Abimbola Ajibola, Oba Kolawole Adegbola, Oba Abiodun Kola Daisi, and Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin.
Also present were representatives from the Iyalode line, leading figures from the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), religious leaders, traditional chiefs, and security agencies including the Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Amotekun operatives.
The gathering highlighted ongoing collaboration between traditional institutions and security stakeholders in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
