NIS Denies Claims of Irregular Passport Payment Channels

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dismissed online allegations concerning its passport application and payment system, describing them as false and misleading.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Monday, the agency said its digital passport processing system remains secure and fully government-approved, warning the public against misinformation.

It reiterated that all passport applications and payments must be made exclusively through its official portal, which it described as the only authorised platform for both local and diaspora applicants.

“The NIS operates a secure, transparent, and government-approved passport application system, which is accessible exclusively through its official portal,” the statement read.

The service also cautioned that any other platforms or intermediaries claiming to process passport-related services on its behalf are fraudulent and should be avoided.

Responding to claims linking a religious organisation or private entity to its payment structure, the NIS strongly denied any such arrangement.

“At no time has the Service partnered with or authorised any religious organisation, private entity, or individual to act as an intermediary or receiving account on its behalf,” it said.

The agency further described the allegations as entirely unfounded, insisting they do not reflect its official procedures.

It added that it has begun an investigation into the origin of the claims and warned that those found responsible for spreading misinformation would face appropriate action.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service has taken note of this purported allegation and is currently investigating the matter,” the statement added.

The NIS urged members of the public to rely only on verified communication channels and avoid unofficial links when processing passport applications.
