Bruno Fernandes has been named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Men’s Footballer of the Year following an impressive individual season in England.
According to BBC Sport, the Football Writers’ Association recognised the Manchester United captain for his consistency, creativity and leadership throughout the campaign.
Fernandes delivered strong individual numbers, scoring eight goals and providing 20 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions, despite an inconsistent season for Manchester United.
He was also credited with playing a key role in the club’s improved performances under interim manager Michael Carrick, as United pushed for a strong league finish and potential qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
The award makes Fernandes the first Manchester United player to win the honour since Wayne Rooney in 2010.
Since joining United from Sporting CP in 2020, Fernandes has become a central figure at Old Trafford and recently reached 300 appearances for the club.
Despite speculation linking him with a move away, including reported interest from Saudi club Al-Hilal, the Portuguese midfielder opted to remain at United.
His current contract runs until 2027, with an option for a further year, and his recent form is expected to prompt discussions over a possible extension.
Fernandes has previously said he will assess his long-term future after the upcoming World Cup, as he continues to focus on his performances for club and country.
