
Former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Zakari Mohammed, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kwara State ahead of the next general election.
Mohammed, who was the sole aspirant for the position, was unanimously adopted as the party’s consensus candidate during the ADC governorship primary election. He secured 18,860 votes in the direct primary conducted across the state.
The secretary of the Kwara State ADC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Shimaka Sekegh, announced the results on behalf of the committee chairman, Orker Yisa.
According to Sekegh, Hon. Risikat Abdullahi clinched the ADC senatorial ticket for Kwara Central, while Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo and Malam Taoheed Usman emerged as candidates for Kwara South and Kwara North, respectively.
Other candidates produced by the party include Hon. Abdulkadir Olanrewaju Oba-Aluko for the Ilorin West/Asa House of Representatives seat, Hon. Tope Olayonu for Oyun/Offa/Ifelodun, and Saad Isa for Ilorin South/Ilorin East.
The collation and announcement of results at the ADC state secretariat were monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Mr. Okpanachi Ojodale.
Speaking after the exercise, the state ADC chairman, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, described the primaries as peaceful and hitch-free. He urged party members to mobilise support across the state’s 193 electoral wards ahead of the elections.
In his acceptance speech, Zakari Mohammed thanked party members for their support, describing his emergence as a victory for the people of Kwara State.
He pledged to implement the ADC manifesto if elected governor, promising inclusive governance and accountability. He also expressed confidence that the party would take control of the Government House in Ilorin in the next election.
