The Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Olubunmi Isioye-Dada, has died after a brief illness.
A palace source confirmed the development on Friday, stating that the monarch passed away at his residence in Ibadan. The source added that members of the Omo Oye had already visited the late chief’s home following news of his death.
Until his passing, Oba Isioye-Dada held the revered title of Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, one of the most senior positions in the traditional chieftaincy hierarchy of the ancient city.
His death is expected to trigger a succession process within the Balogun line of the Ibadan traditional system, leading to the promotion of several chiefs and high chiefs.
Among those likely to be affected is All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and governorship aspirant, Senator Sharafadeen Ali, who is expected to move from the position of Ekaarun Balogun to Ekerin Balogun, subject to the approval of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
Similarly, Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin is expected to advance from Ekerin Balogun to Asipa Balogun as the succession process progresses.
Further announcements regarding the traditional rites and succession arrangements are expected from the Ibadan traditional council.
