Kwara APC Elders Oppose Danladi’s Candidacy

The Kwara State APC Elders Caucus has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to reconsider the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 elections, arguing that Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, is not the party’s strongest electoral option.

Addressing a press conference in Ilorin on Monday, the chairman of the caucus, Sir (Dr.) Chief James Bamisaiye Ayenioye, said the position of the elders followed extensive consultations with party stakeholders across the three senatorial districts of the state.

According to the group, its concerns are not driven by personal opposition to Danladi-Salihu’s political ambition but by what it described as the need for the APC to present its most electable candidate in a changing political environment.

“We do not believe that the purported emergence of Hon. Engr. Yakubu Salihu Danladi represents the strongest political option available to the party at this critical moment,” Ayenioye said.

The elders argued that the Speaker lacks the broad-based appeal needed to unite party members, attract undecided voters and strengthen the APC’s chances against an increasingly competitive opposition.

They also questioned the process that led to his emergence, alleging that key stakeholders were not adequately consulted before decisions were made.

The caucus urged President Tinubu, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda and members of the National Working Committee to engage party stakeholders and reassess the situation in Kwara State.

The group warned that political decisions not grounded in prevailing realities could undermine the APC’s prospects in the 2027 governorship election.
