The Delta State Government has dismissed social media reports claiming that former governor Emmanuel Uduaghan is dead, describing the information as false and misleading.
The clarification was issued on Wednesday by Ossai Success, Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, following the circulation of the rumour online.
According to Ossai, he contacted the former governor’s family to verify the claim and was assured that Uduaghan is alive and in good health.
In a post on his X account titled “Former Governor Uduaghan Is Alive – Death Rumour False,” Ossai said he spoke directly with Uduaghan’s daughter, Orode Uduaghan, who confirmed that the report was untrue.
“I immediately reached out to his family to confirm. I spoke directly with his daughter, Orode Uduaghan, on the phone, and she confirmed that the news is false. Dr. Uduaghan is alive,” he wrote.
Ossai condemned the spread of unverified information, expressing concern over the emotional distress such rumours can cause to families and supporters.
“Spreading fake news about someone’s death is cruel, irresponsible, and causes unnecessary pain to the family and millions of Deltans who hold him in high regard,” he said.
He urged members of the public to disregard the report and avoid sharing information that has not been verified.
“Let us show respect for life and for our leaders. Dr. Uduaghan is fine and not dead,” Ossai added.
