The widow of late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has appealed to Nigerians for assistance, saying she and her children are facing severe financial hardship.
The appeal was made during a video interview with content creator King Mitchy, where the actor’s wife and children spoke about the challenges they have faced since his death.
Speaking emotionally, the widow revealed that the family has been unable to pay rent and electricity bills, resulting in their power supply being disconnected for about two months.
“We fetch water from the well because I have not paid the house rent. They have even cut my lights for two months now. Every night we go to look for a place to charge our phones. It’s not easy,” she said.
She added that the family’s financial difficulties have also affected her children’s education, with unpaid school fees threatening their continued attendance.
“Right now, they can’t go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today,” she said.
One of the actor’s daughters commended her mother for her efforts to keep the family together despite the challenges.
“I want to thank God for my mom. She tries everything she can to feed us, pay our school fees, and make us happy,” she said.
According to King Mitchy, support is being sought to help the family settle outstanding rent, pay school fees, and restore electricity to their home.
Mr Ibu, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated comic actors, died on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62.
