The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a viral report claiming that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Akwukwu Igbo, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, was suspended due to a faulty registration machine.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Nseabasi Udom, described the report as false, misleading, and not originating from the commission.
INEC clarified that the voter registration exercise is continuing as planned under its approved rotation schedule. It explained that registration teams were deployed to Ibusa on Thursday, where the exercise was successfully conducted.
The commission added that the registration center in Akwukwu Igbo is scheduled to resume operations from July 6 to July 10 in line with the timetable for the local government area.
INEC urged residents of Akwukwu Igbo and neighboring communities to disregard the viral message and rely only on its official communication channels for verified information.
The commission also encouraged eligible residents to continue with their voter registration and data update exercises as scheduled, assuring them there had been no cancellation or disruption.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent, credible, and accessible Continuous Voter Registration exercise across Delta State, while ensuring that all eligible citizens have the opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
