The final evacuation flight carrying stranded Nigerians from South Africa arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Wednesday, bringing the Federal Government’s airlift operation to a close.

The Air Peace aircraft landed at about 11:30 a.m. with 315 evacuees on board, completing the government’s evacuation exercise coordinated in partnership with the airline and relevant agencies.

Government officials received the returnees at the airport, where they underwent arrival and documentation procedures before reuniting with their families.

The evacuation exercise was launched in response to xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals, including Nigerians, in South Africa. The violence claimed the lives of some Nigerians, left many stranded, and resulted in the looting of businesses owned by Nigerian citizens.

The arrival of the final batch marks the conclusion of the emergency operation aimed at ensuring the safe return of affected Nigerians from South Africa.
