The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt has hosted the Committee on the Review of the Joint Defense Doctrine (JDD) 2017 as part of efforts to update the Armed Forces’ operational framework in response to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

The committee, led by its chairman, Major General Ademola Adedoja, met with commanders and senior officers of the division on Tuesday to gather professional recommendations for the 2026 edition of the Joint Defense Doctrine.

According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Umar Adam, the review is being conducted on the directive of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, to ensure the doctrine reflects current operational realities and modern military requirements.

Adedoja explained that the Joint Defense Doctrine, first developed in 2017, is intended to undergo periodic reviews. However, planned updates in 2022 and 2025 were not completed, making the current exercise necessary.

He said the review, which commenced in June 2026, focuses on key areas including logistics, command and control, emerging technologies, evolving security threats, modern warfare and inter-agency collaboration.

The committee chairman stressed that the success of the exercise depends on broad consultation and encouraged commanders, staff officers and personnel to make candid and constructive contributions, assuring them that all recommendations would be carefully considered.

Representing the General Officer Commanding 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force (South-South) Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Emmanuel Adamu, welcomed the delegation and pledged the division’s full support for the review.

The statement added that senior officers participated in an interactive session, offering observations and recommendations aimed at strengthening the revised Joint Defense Doctrine ahead of its planned release in 2026.
