Troops Repel Terrorist Attack on Zamfara Military Base

Nigerian troops have repelled an attempted terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mayanchi, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, preventing any disruption along the strategic Sokoto–Gusau highway.

The incident was disclosed by counter-insurgency and security analyst Zagazola Makama, who reported that the attack occurred at about 5:05 p.m. on July 18.

According to the report, the suspected terrorists, riding motorcycles, attempted to overrun the military facility. Troops stationed at the base immediately engaged the attackers, while reinforcement personnel from the Forward Operating Base in Fangaltama were deployed to support the operation.

The coordinated response forced the attackers to retreat without breaching the military camp, the report said.

The successful defence of the base also ensured that the Sokoto–Gusau Main Supply Route remained secure, preventing any interruption to military operations and civilian movement along the strategic corridor.

The report added that the operation is part of ongoing military efforts to sustain pressure on armed groups operating across Zamfara State and restrict their freedom of movement.
