The management of EMIRATE RADIO 98.5 FM Ilorin has partnered with the National Population Commission, NPC, to intensify public awareness and mobilization for the registration of births and deaths across Kwara State.
This was disclosed on Wednesday, July 2026, when the Chief Executive Officer of the station, Dr. AbdulAzeez Arowona, led a delegation of three senior management staff on a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Honourable Federal Commissioner representing Kwara State at the NPC, Dr. Isiaka Alada Yahaya, in his office in Ilorin.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Arowona congratulated Dr. Alada on his appointment and described it as well-deserved.
He said EMIRATE RADIO 98.5 FM, as The Voice of Harmony, remains committed to using its platform to support government agencies in promoting policies that impact directly on the lives of citizens.
He noted that the collaboration with the NPC will focus on sensitizing the public on the importance of timely birth and death registration, and on providing accurate information that will help strengthen Nigeria’s population data base.
According to him: “As a leading radio station in the Ilorin Emirate and beyond, we recognize our responsibility to serve the people. We are ready to collaborate with the National Population Commission to ensure that every birth and death in our communities is duly registered through the ongoing digital process. This will help in planning for healthcare, education, and other social services.”
The Emirate FM delegation also pledged to dedicate airtime, jingles, and special programs to support the Commission’s mandate, and to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of information to the public on all NPC activities.
In his remarks, Dr. Isiaka Alada Yahaya expressed appreciation to the management of EMIRATE RADIO 98.5 FM for the visit and for the offer of partnership. He described the media as a critical stakeholder in achieving the Commission’s goals.
Dr. Alada reiterated the NPC’s commitment to conducting a credible, transparent, and technology-driven national census.
He also highlighted the Commission’s ongoing nationwide digital birth and death registration initiative, which he said is designed to capture real-time demographic data and replace the outdated manual system.
“Accurate population data is the foundation for national development. With digital registration, we can plan better for schools, hospitals, infrastructure, and social intervention programs. We need the media to help us take this message to every home in Kwara State,” he said.
The Federal Commissioner further assured that the Commission will work closely with traditional institutions, religious leaders, and media organizations to ensure that no child is left unregistered.
