Connie Francis, once the world’s best-selling female recording artist, has died at the age of 87. The singer passed away yesterday night after being hospitalized for pelvic pain and later diagnosed with pneumonia, her record label president Ron Roberts confirmed to the BBC.
Francis, known for hits like Stupid Cupid and Who’s Sorry Now, had recently seen renewed attention thanks to her 1962 song Pretty Little Baby, which went viral on TikTok. Originally a B-side, the track became a trending audio, used in millions of videos by fans and celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner.
In a June interview with People magazine, Francis expressed surprise at the resurgence, admitting she had forgotten about the song. “To think that a song I recorded 63 years ago is touching the hearts of millions is truly awesome,” she said.
Francis rose to international fame in the late 1950s and helped pave the way for future generations of female pop stars. Her influence continues to resonate.
