Kwara Customs Seizes N1.2 Billion Worth Of Contraband

The Nigeria Customs Service, Kwara Area Command, has intercepted and seized contraband goods valued at 1.2 billion naira, the command announced on Tuesday.

Acting Area Controller, Comptroller disclosed the figure while addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Ilorin.

He said the seizures reflect the command’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on smuggling and economic sabotage.

“Working in line with the Customs Act 2023, our efforts are focused on reducing smuggling activities to the minimum,” Ogundeyi said.

During the period, the command confiscated 389 bales of second-hand clothing, 108 sacks of used bags, 6,500 liters of petrol, 450 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50 kg each), three vehicles, and 160 used tyres.

Ogundeyi emphasized that anyone caught smuggling would face prosecution in accordance with the law.

He commended the officers for their dedication, resilience, and selfless service to the nation.

The acting controller urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to assist the command in enforcement operations.

He reassured that customs activities would continue within the framework of the law and with respect for human rights.

The announcement underscores the Nigerian Customs Service’s ongoing efforts to curb illicit trade and protect the nation’s economy.
