Kwara College Of Education Oro Resumes After Security Review

The Kwara State College of Education, Oro, has resumed academic and administrative activities following a directive by the state government, citing significant improvement in the security situation.

The reopening was communicated in an internal memorandum dated February 2, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information, Protocol and Publicity, Mrs Lawal Taibat Saka-Bolanta.

According to the memo, the resumption takes immediate effect and follows the approval of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. It directed staff and students to return to normal academic and administrative duties.

The memorandum also expressed appreciation to the state government, the Ministry of Tertiary Education, and other stakeholders for their support during the period of closure.

The development comes after the Kwara State Government announced on Sunday that all schools across the state would reopen from Monday, February 2, 2026, after months of shutdown due to security concerns.

The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, said the decision was based on a marked improvement in security conditions, adding that vigilance would be sustained as security operations continue.

The College of Education, Oro, was among institutions earlier closed following direct security threats that forced students to evacuate and disrupted academic activities.

The reopening forms part of the gradual restoration of educational activities across Kwara State, where primary and secondary schools had been shut since November 2025 as a precaution against bandit attacks, particularly in border and forested communities.

The state government has assured residents that sustained military operations and enhanced intelligence gathering have restored relative calm, with security agencies remaining on high alert to prevent a resurgence of criminal activities.
