The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has condemned a violent bandit attack on Woro town in Kaiama Local Government Area, which reportedly left more than ten people dead and several houses burned.
In a statement signed by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the party described the attack as a “despicable, inhuman and callous act” against innocent civilians.
According to reports, most of the victims were youths, including a former Students’ Union President of a tertiary institution in the state.
The PDP criticized what it called the government’s inadequate response to insecurity, stating that Kwara State requires practical, people-oriented leadership rather than “propaganda, photo-ops and hollow sympathy messages.”
The party viewed the official communication from Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq as largely symbolic, lacking concrete reassurance or immediate support for victims and the affected community.
“The governor’s statement is riddled with self-adulation and a distorted portrayal of the security situation in Kwara State,” the statement said, noting that attacks and kidnappings continue despite claims of successful military operations.
The PDP called on the state government to urgently deploy humanitarian aid, relief materials, and medical support to Woro and other affected communities.
It also urged security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the attackers and hold them accountable for the violence.
Expressing condolences, the PDP extended sympathies to the Emir of Kaiama, His Royal Highness Alh Omar Shehu Muazu Kiyaru II, and prayed for comfort for bereaved families and wisdom for state leaders in addressing insecurity.
