UNILORIN Alumnus Praises University For Career Foundation

Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona, Press Secretary to the Emir of Ilorin and a distinguished alumnus of the University of Ilorin, has commended his alma mater for laying the foundation for his career and achievements.

In an interview with UNILORIN 89.3FM, hosted by Station Manager Idris Alooma, Dr. Arowona expressed gratitude to the University for shaping him into the professional he is today.

Dr. Arowona, founder of Online Royalnews Newspaper and Emirate Radio Station, highlighted his goal of creating opportunities for young media practitioners, noting that many Nigerian news outlets are run by non-journalists.

Reflecting on his work with Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, CFR, he described the experience as smooth and enriching, praising the monarch’s peaceful nature and avoidance of controversy. He said the role has positively impacted both himself and the broader community.

The Press Secretary revealed that his book, The Royal Stool, is intended to leave a lasting legacy and serve as a resource for researchers. His latest work, Spiritual Orator, honours the late Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammad Basheer Soliu, OON, and underscores his commitment to scholarship and heritage preservation.

Dr. Arowona also holds traditional titles, including Shettima of Okuta Emirate and Chikansoro Tangale, and has earned multiple professional certifications and memberships in highly regarded media organizations.

He emphasized the importance of mentorship and skill development for young journalists, highlighting the need for ethically led media institutions in Nigeria.

Dr. Arowona’s career reflects a blend of journalism, public service, and cultural scholarship, positioning him as a key figure in preserving both media integrity and local heritage.
