FG Moves To Strengthen Women’s Health Coordination

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health (OSSAP-WH) have begun efforts to harmonise interventions aimed at addressing challenges affecting women across Nigeria.

The move was disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, Dr. Adanna Steinacker, during a meeting with a coalition of women leaders, civil society organisations and non-governmental groups. The meeting was convened by the ministry and facilitated by OSSAP-WH.

Steinacker said her office is adopting a nationwide strategy to ensure women’s health remains central to national development planning. She noted that OSSAP-WH was launched by President Bola Tinubu on September 11, 2025, alongside its mandate, RenewHER.

According to her, RenewHER — which stands for Health, Equity and Reform — is designed to coordinate women’s health policies in collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Women’s Affairs.

She explained that the initiative is structured around three pillars, beginning with a digital media and advocacy hub aimed at addressing knowledge gaps in women’s health.

“There is a lack of knowledge on how to access and understand the services the government has provided. We are prioritising digital media to disseminate accurate, evidence-based information that increases health literacy,” she said.

The second pillar focuses on region-specific campaigns, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Health, to identify and respond to priority health issues across the country’s geopolitical zones.

The third component involves organising coalitions, symposia and summits to foster collaboration among stakeholders working to advance women’s health.

Steinacker said the ministry is committed to breaking down institutional silos and treating women’s health as a shared national responsibility. Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, also pledged support for initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of Nigerian women.
