Kano Suspends Entertainment Centres for Ramadan Observance

The Kano State Censorship Board has ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment centres across the state, including event venues and disc jockey (DJ) operations, ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

The directive was announced Tuesday by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman.

“Effective from Wednesday, 18 February 2026, all entertainment centres will remain closed until the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The closure will take effect from 10:00 p.m.,” the statement said.

The board said the measure aims to allow residents to observe Ramadan in a peaceful and undisturbed environment while carrying out religious activities.

“The closure will remain in force throughout the fasting period. The reopening date, particularly for Eid celebrations, will be communicated at the appropriate time,” the statement added.

Stakeholders have been urged to comply fully with the directive in accordance with the law establishing the agency.

The board emphasized that the closure aligns with its mandate to regulate entertainment activities within the state.

It further appealed to residents for cooperation and adherence to the directive.

The agency concluded by wishing the public a peaceful and healthy observance of the holy month and prayed for mercy and prosperity for all.
