The chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the February 21 Abuja Municipal Area Council election has conceded defeat, saying he will not challenge the outcome declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the candidate, Chukwu, congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Christopher Maikalangu, who was declared winner of the poll.
Chukwu said he would not contest the result “for any reason whatsoever,” describing elections as a platform for service rather than personal ambition.
He commended the peaceful conduct of the campaign and election day, noting that the orderly process and safety recorded were victories for democracy.
According to him, elections remain a means of serving the people and should not be a source of division. He urged anyone dissatisfied with the outcome to seek redress through lawful channels.
“I pledge support for initiatives that would ensure the success of the incoming administration,” he said, while urging Maikalangu to govern with humility and inclusiveness.
Chukwu added that AMAC belongs to all residents, regardless of political, ethnic or religious affiliation, and called on the new administration to promote fairness, unity and commitment to the common good.
