The Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has nullified the three-month suspension of Saba Yisa Gideon, ordering his immediate reinstatement to the State House of Assembly.
Justice Muritala Folorunsho ruled that the suspension, carried out on December 18, 2025, was unconstitutional and amounted to a breach of the lawmaker’s fundamental rights.
Gideon, who represents Edu Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, was suspended for allegedly recording proceedings of a House meeting without consent and sharing the recording with unauthorized persons.
Challenging the decision, the lawmaker filed a suit against the Speaker and the leadership of the Assembly, arguing that the action violated statutory and constitutional provisions.
In his judgment, Justice Folorunsho held that the suspension was not supported by the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act or the Assembly’s standing rules. He declared the action “unconstitutional, unlawful, illegal, null and void, and of no legal effect.”
The court set aside the suspension and restrained the Assembly’s leadership from interfering with Gideon’s legislative duties or denying him access to the Assembly complex, chambers, committee rooms or his assigned office.
It also ordered the respondents to pay all accrued salaries and entitlements withheld during the period of suspension.
The ruling effectively restores Gideon to full legislative status and affirms his right to represent Edu Constituency without hindrance.
