Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu arrived at about 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, accompanied by two officers, ahead of his formal decoration as Acting Inspector-General of Police.
His appointment followed the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun, which was accepted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced on Tuesday that Egbetokun stepped down due to “pressing family considerations.”
Tinubu commended the outgoing police chief for his decades of service, professionalism and contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s internal security framework.
“In view of the current security challenges confronting the nation, and acting in accordance with extant laws and legal guidance, President Tinubu has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to serve as Acting Inspector-General of Police with immediate effect,” Onanuga said in a statement.
Disu, regarded as a seasoned officer with extensive operational experience, assumes leadership of the police force at a time of heightened security concerns across the country.
