Iran: Explosions Hit U.S. Embassy in Baghdad After Militia Strikes

A series of explosions struck the United States Embassy Baghdad on Saturday morning in Baghdad, sending a plume of black smoke into the sky and raising fresh security concerns in the region.

According to reports, the embassy complex was hit during the incident, although the exact cause of the blasts has not been officially confirmed.

Preliminary accounts suggest that a drone struck the diplomatic compound, while another projectile believed to be a rocket landed near the facility’s airbase.

As of the time of reporting, the U.S. embassy had not issued an official statement on the attack.

The incident marks the second time the embassy has reportedly come under attack in Baghdad since the escalation of hostilities between the United States and Iran.

Several Tehran-backed armed factions operating under the umbrella group Islamic Resistance in Iraq have in recent months claimed responsibility for repeated drone and rocket strikes targeting U.S. military facilities across the region.

Among the groups active within the coalition is Kataeb Hezbollah, which was recently hit by airstrikes that reportedly killed two of its members, including a senior figure.

The latest attack on the embassy occurred shortly after those strikes, further escalating tensions amid the ongoing conflict in the region.
