Bandits attacked Sabon Gyero community early Monday, killing one person and abducting seven others, local sources and authorities confirmed.

The assailants, reported to have arrived in large numbers before dawn, first targeted a residence, abducting three women and four children.

They later attacked a phone-charging centre in the community, shooting a young man identified as Abdullahi Lawal. Lawal, who was deaf and mute, was shot in the head and died en route to the hospital.

During the raid, the attackers reportedly stole several mobile phones and laptops from the charging centre.

Lawal was later buried in Sabon Gyero in accordance with Islamic rites.

The Joint Task Force (JTF) Commandant in the area, Uwaisu Yunusa, told journalists that operatives responded after hearing gunshots and attempted to pursue the attackers but were unable to catch them.

Authorities confirmed that one of the kidnapped women was released by the abductors due to health complications.

The incident highlights ongoing insecurity in Chikun Local Government Area and surrounding communities.

Security agencies have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to prevent further attacks.

Efforts to track and apprehend the remaining abductors are ongoing, according to local security sources.
