Ekiti Launches Initiative to Digitalise Healthcare Services

The Ekiti State government has unveiled plans to advance the digitalisation of healthcare services to enhance service delivery and strengthen the state’s health system.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Oyebanji Filani, during the inauguration of a 35-member Technical Working Group on Digital Health in Ado-Ekiti.

“The initiative is aimed at aligning the state with Nigeria’s national digital health architecture and improving access to quality healthcare for residents,” Dr. Filani said.

The commissioner explained that the digitalisation effort will integrate electronic medical records, health registries, and data exchange platforms, allowing healthcare providers to securely access patient information when needed.

Some health facilities in the state already use electronic medical record systems, but the new initiative is expected to expand and standardise digital health services across all public and private facilities.

Dr. Filani said the project will strengthen data management, support evidence-based decision-making, and improve the efficiency of healthcare delivery.

The Technical Working Group will collaborate with government institutions, private healthcare providers, and development partners to ensure effective implementation of the initiative.

The initiative is part of broader efforts by the state government to modernise healthcare, increase patient access, and improve overall health outcomes in Ekiti.

Officials said the programme will also enhance health system planning and resource allocation by providing reliable, real-time data across the state.

By embracing digital health solutions, Ekiti aims to position itself as a model for modern, data-driven healthcare in Nigeria.
