Fani-Kayode Criticizes Dele Momodu Over Tinubu-Abacha Comparison

Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has criticized media personality and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Dele Momodu for likening President Bola Tinubu to the late military ruler Sani Abacha.

Momodu made the comparison during a Sunday interview, describing President Tinubu’s leadership style as dictatorial, remarks that have sparked debate across Nigeria’s political landscape.

In a post on X, Fani-Kayode called the comparison “unfair and disrespectful” to both the president and other government officials.

“I love Dele and have immense respect for him, but he sounded drained, tired, and broken, and spoke little sense in that interview,” Fani-Kayode said. “He should consider taking a break from politics and commentary to regain perspective and refresh his thinking.”

He argued that Momodu’s comments disrespected not only the president but also the vice president, ministers, lawmakers, and newly appointed ambassadors, while undermining the intelligence of Nigerians.

Fani-Kayode also criticized the ADC, urging the party to focus on building a viable opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections rather than attacking the ruling government.

He described the party as ill-prepared for national politics, comparing it to “a poorly patched inflatable boat” lacking structure, leadership, and resources.

“The ADC cannot even be described as a sinking ship but rather as a badly patched-up inflatable lifeboat with no engine, sails, oars, captain, crew, navigational equipment, firepower, or destination,” Fani-Kayode said. “It cannot survive the rough seas of Nigerian politics without gravitas, focus, character, intelligence, discipline, and strength.”

He concluded by stressing that the ADC must develop focus, discipline, and capacity if it hopes to be taken seriously as a political force in future elections.
