Baruwa Faction Takes Over NURTW Secretariat

A faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) led by Tajudeen Baruwa on Monday took control of the union’s national secretariat in Abuja amid an ongoing leadership dispute.

Members of the faction reportedly stormed the headquarters early in the day, marking the latest development in the prolonged internal crisis within the union.

The leadership tussle between Baruwa and Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has persisted since 2024.

MC Oluomo had been elected National President of the union by members in November 2024.

However, the dispute later moved to court, where a ruling reportedly favored Baruwa’s claim to the leadership position.

Despite the judgment, MC Oluomo has continued to operate as president, deepening divisions within the union.

Monday’s takeover of the secretariat signals a fresh escalation in the leadership struggle, as stakeholders await further developments on the union’s next steps.
