Kano Police Repel Bandit Attack, One Dead, Several Injured

The Nigeria Police Force in Kano State repelled an attack on its personnel during an operation to arrest a suspected bandit leader in Bichi Local Government Area, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

Security sources reported that the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on March 22 following a distress call from the Tudun Wulli police outpost.

The operation was carried out by a team from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, led by ASP Abubakar Musa, acting on intelligence that a suspected bandit known as Muhammad, also called “Senator” or “Kirchi,” was in Tudun Wulli village to celebrate the Sallah festival.

“The suspect was sighted in possession of an AK-47 rifle, but upon an attempt to apprehend him, he fled into a crowd,” a security source said.

Tensions escalated when some members of the crowd reportedly attacked the police team with stones and other objects to prevent the arrest.

During the clash, ASP Lawali Hamidu was injured, and the windscreen of a police patrol vehicle was damaged.

Four other individuals sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to the General Hospital in Bichi for treatment, where one victim, Halima Saidu, was later pronounced dead. The remaining injured were reported to be responding to treatment.

Police personnel involved in the operation were safely evacuated, and additional security forces have been deployed to maintain order in the area.

The command said the situation is under control and confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Authorities also stated that efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect are being intensified.
