Ahmed Tijjani Umar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied reports circulating on social media that he was detained by the Department of State Services (DSS), clarifying that he was only invited for questioning and later released.
Speaking on the incident, Umar said he fully cooperated with security officials and is currently safe and free.
“I am speaking today to correct the false report that is circulating. I was not detained by the DSS. I was invited for questioning. I cooperated fully and I was released. I am free, I am safe and I am well,” he said.
The cleric appealed to his supporters and residents of Kaduna State to remain calm and avoid actions that could threaten public order.
“I want to appeal to all our supporters and to all citizens of Kaduna State to remain calm, remain peaceful and remain law-abiding citizens. No one should take the law into his hands. No one should create disorder in the name of loyalty,” he stated.
Umar also urged patience regarding the situation involving former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, calling on the public to allow due process to take its course.
He further advised citizens dissatisfied with the political system to pursue change through democratic means, encouraging them to participate actively in elections rather than resort to unrest.
