The Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) has called on the Akwa Ibom State government to sustain the engagement of professionals in the mining and geosciences sector to ensure that development projects meet international standards.
The society made the appeal during an inspection of the Arise Palm Resort at the close of its 61st Annual Conference and Exhibition held in Uyo over the weekend.
NMGS commended Governor Umo Eno for efforts to diversify the state’s economy through investments in tourism and other non-oil sectors, noting that greater attention to solid minerals development could further strengthen economic growth.
The society expressed confidence that sustained commitment to professional input and strategic planning would position Akwa Ibom as a major destination for tourism and solid minerals investment in Nigeria.
Speaking during the inspection, Mrs. Emaekop Eduok, an Assistant Chief Geologist in the state Ministry of Works, described the Arise Palm Resort project as a reflection of a forward-looking approach to harnessing natural and environmental assets for sustainable economic development.
