The Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR) has called on state governments to coordinate security measures for intending pilgrims ahead of the 2026 Hajj airlift operations.
In a statement, IHR National Coordinator Ibrahim Muhammad said pilgrims travelling across states to orientation camps and departure airports require unified protection to prevent security threats during the pre-departure period.
He urged the establishment of joint state–security monitoring teams to track movements from pilgrims’ homes to transit camps and embarkation points, warning that fragmented security arrangements could leave gaps.
The group also advised State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards to sensitise intending pilgrims on basic safety practices, including identifying potential risks, complying with travel guidelines issued by Saudi Arabia authorities, and avoiding the spread of unverified security alerts.
IHR cited the arrest of suspected bandits at a Hajj camp in 2025 as a reminder of the need for stronger preventive measures ahead of the upcoming pilgrimage season.
The organisation further cautioned pilgrims against travelling in large convoys accompanied by relatives who are not participating in the pilgrimage, noting that such movements could attract unnecessary attention.
According to the group, the appeal is intended to help synchronise security arrangements across states before the commencement of flights for the 2026 Hajj exercise.
