Police Deploy Reinforcements to Benue Ahead of Easter

The Nigeria Police Force has deployed additional personnel to Benue State to strengthen security ahead of the 2026 Easter celebrations.

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu approved the deployment of 14 units drawn from 16 Police Mobile Force (PMF) squadrons, alongside 250 officers from specialised tactical teams, to reinforce operations across the state.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, Udeme Edet, who said the move is aimed at strengthening ongoing security efforts and protecting lives and property during the festive period.

According to the statement, the deployed personnel have been integrated with existing tactical units and other security agencies to enhance surveillance and operations in hinterland areas, vulnerable communities, and major public spaces.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ifeanyi Emenari, commended the Inspector-General for the reinforcement and assured residents of the command’s readiness to maintain law and order before, during, and after the Easter celebrations.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information.

The command further encouraged members of the public to report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police formation or through its emergency lines as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful festive season.
