Five members of a local forest guard unit, including their commander, were killed in an early morning attack on Nuku community in Kaiama Local Government Area, triggering fresh concerns over security in the area.
The assault, which reportedly occurred around 3:00 a.m., also left several security assets destroyed and residents in shock, according to local sources.
The incident came shortly after disturbing videos surfaced showing kidnapped victims still being held by bandits, a development that had already heightened tension across the community before the latest attack.
During the raid, motorcycles belonging to the forest guards were set ablaze, while patrol vehicles operated by mobile police personnel were also reportedly destroyed, dealing a setback to local security operations.
Residents said the killings have deepened fear across Nuku and surrounding communities, with calls growing for urgent reinforcement of security personnel and stronger government intervention to prevent further violence.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to issue an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Community members and families of the victims are now seeking improved protection measures and sustained security presence to restore calm in the area.
