The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike has commenced renovation work at Wadata Plaza, the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who monitored developments at the facility located in Zone 5 on Monday, observed that renovation activities were ongoing ahead of the resumption of staff.
The development followed the unsealing of the secretariat by the Nigeria Police Force, which restored access to the building for the Wike-backed faction of the party.
Although barricades previously mounted around the main office complex had been removed, some police vehicles remained stationed at the premises, with officers continuing to provide security.
A party member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that renovation work began on Sunday. According to the source, the ongoing upgrade includes repainting offices, replacing air conditioners, changing locks and keys, and reallocating office spaces to members of the new NWC.
The source, however, expressed concern that staff members believed to be loyal to the faction led by Tanimu Turaki might face difficulties resuming duties at the secretariat amid the ongoing leadership dispute within the party.
As of the time of filing the report, no party officials had resumed work at the secretariat.
