Troops Arrest Herder Over Farm Destruction in Benue

Troops of Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested a herder over alleged destruction of farmland in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State.

The development was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on X, where he said the troops acted on a report from residents.

According to him, the incident occurred around noon on May 3 in Anule, where troops responded to complaints of crops being destroyed.

On arrival, the soldiers reportedly found the suspect grazing cattle on cultivated farmland, resulting in significant damage.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Makama added that efforts are ongoing to prevent a recurrence and promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders in the area.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions in parts of Benue State, where clashes between farming and herding communities have remained a security concern.
