2027: Turaki-Led PDP Faction Meets Jonathan in Abuja

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Tanimu Turaki on Friday held a strategic meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja.

The meeting came less than 48 hours after Jonathan disclosed that he was consulting widely over the possibility of contesting the 2027 presidential election.

Jonathan made the remark on Thursday while addressing a group of supporters who visited his office to urge him to join the presidential race.

Responding to the appeal, the former president said the decision to run for office required careful consideration and extensive consultations.

“You are asking me to come and contest the next election. The presidential race is not a computer game. But I’ve heard you, and I’ll consult widely,” Jonathan said.

The visit by the Turaki-led PDP faction has further fuelled political speculation about Jonathan’s potential return to active electoral politics ahead of the 2027 general election.

Details of Friday’s meeting were not immediately made public, and neither Jonathan nor the factional PDP leadership issued an official statement after the talks.
