The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has announced that eight aspirants have indicated interest in contesting the Rivers State governorship election on the party’s platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party also praised former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for what it described as his “boldness” in obtaining the party’s presidential nomination form.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Sunday, the party’s Rivers State chairman-elect, Chukwudi Dimkpa, said the ADC was witnessing growing political interest as preparations for the 2027 elections intensified.

According to him, the decision by Amaechi to seek the presidency on the ADC platform marks “another major milestone” in the party’s growing national relevance.

Dimkpa said the level of interest in the ADC within Rivers State had been unprecedented, with no fewer than eight individuals already expressing interest in the governorship race.

He explained that the aspirants include former public office holders, technocrats, professionals, and private-sector operators.

Among those mentioned were a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, former members of the House of Representatives, a former Executive Director of Marine and Operations at the Nigerian Ports Authority, a former chairman of NIMASA, a former Commissioner for Employment Generation, a former Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, and other professionals and entrepreneurs.

Dimkpa added that several individuals had also indicated interest in contesting Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly seats under the ADC platform in Rivers State.

He said the development showed that the ADC was no longer being viewed as an alternative platform but was increasingly becoming “the vehicle for the future.”

According to him, the influx of politicians and professionals into the party reflected growing public confidence in the ADC’s internal democracy, leadership vision, and political agenda ahead of 2027.

He further stated that the party remained committed to transparent processes, peaceful engagement, and issue-based politics as preparations for the elections continued.
