Naija Ratels Defend Salary Payments Amid Welfare Concerns

Naija Ratels FC have defended their record on player welfare and salary obligations following reports alleging unpaid wages within the club.

In a statement issued by the club’s president, Abdul Sule, the Abuja-based side said it has maintained communication with players and coaches throughout the season and has continued to make payments as funds become available amid financial challenges.

Sule described the reports circulating online as an attempt to tarnish the club’s reputation, arguing that they failed to provide the full context of the situation.

According to him, Naija Ratels have worked hard to build a credible football institution since their establishment in 2019, and judging the club based on a single narrative would be unfair.

He explained that the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season placed significant financial pressure on the club, particularly after it was forced to rebuild much of its squad.

Despite the challenges, Sule maintained that all player contracts remain valid and binding, stressing that the club is committed to meeting every contractual obligation.

“We remain dedicated to honouring all our commitments to players and staff,” the statement said.

Naija Ratels endured a difficult campaign in the 2025/26 season, finishing at the bottom of NWFL Group A with five points.
