The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kebbi State has requested the relocation of its orientation camp from Bausara in Jega Local Government Area to Birnin Kebbi, citing security concerns at the current site.
State Coordinator Bala Dabo-Kagarko disclosed this during an interaction with journalists at the camp, saying security assessments identified the location as vulnerable and unsuitable for the safety of corps members.
According to him, reports from security agencies indicated that the host community lacks the capacity to provide adequate protection for the camp, prompting the request to move operations to the state capital.
“Recent security reports showed that the camp’s current location is exposed, and the community hosting it cannot provide sufficient security for corps members,” Dabo-Kagarko said.
The orientation camp had earlier been relocated from its permanent site in Dakingari, Suru Local Government Area, due to insecurity in that area.
Dabo-Kagarko also announced that corps members would not be posted to Arewa, Augie and Sakaba local government areas because of ongoing security challenges.
He further revealed that only 492 corps members registered for the current orientation exercise, noting a decline in the number of participants deployed to the state.
The coordinator attributed the drop to inadequate accommodation, poor infrastructure and limited facilities available to corps members.
He explained that the NYSC considers factors such as hostel availability, water supply, electricity and other essential amenities when determining deployment locations, adding that improved infrastructure would help attract more corps members to Kebbi State.
