An 18-seater commercial bus on Saturday crashed into a shop at Challenge Market in Ilorin, Kwara State, after reportedly suffering brake failure.
The vehicle veered off the road before ramming into the shop, causing panic among traders and passers-by in the busy market.
Eyewitnesses said a perimeter fence absorbed much of the impact, preventing the bus from plunging further into the market and averting what could have been a major tragedy.
Although the crash caused damage to property, no fatalities were recorded as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has renewed concerns over vehicle safety and the need for regular maintenance of commercial vehicles, particularly to prevent brake-related accidents.
It has also underscored the importance of protective infrastructure, such as perimeter fences, in reducing the impact of road accidents in crowded public places.
