Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has revealed that she lost ₦5 million after placing a bet on the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, saying the experience has convinced her to quit gambling.
The actress disclosed this in a post shared on her Instagram page on Monday, shortly after Spain defeated Argentina in the tournament’s final.
“First time betting and I lost. Will never try it again. My 5M gone. In fact am done watching football. Anxiety almost killed me,” she wrote.
Etiko did not reveal the specific bet she placed or provide further details about how she lost the money.
Before and during the match, the actress had openly supported Argentina on her Instagram Stories, posting, “Argentina all the way. Who can’t wait?”
As the game progressed, she expressed frustration with the defending champions’ performance, writing, “This ball tough o. Argentina is pissing me off.” She also praised goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, describing him as “the savior” for keeping Argentina in the contest.
Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time on Sunday to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal, securing Spain’s second world title, 16 years after its first triumph in South Africa in 2010.
Argentina finished the match with 10 players after midfielder Enzo Fernández was sent off for a second bookable offence. Spain eventually broke the deadlock after dominating possession for much of the contest.
