Calls for FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup have generated mixed reactions across social media.

The debate intensified after LaLiga president Javier Tebas urged Infantino to step down following Spain’s 1-0 victory over Argentina in the World Cup final.

Tebas criticised FIFA’s handling of the tournament, questioning decisions such as the use of hydration breaks and the musical performance during the final in New Jersey. He also cited an incident involving United States forward Folarin Balogun as an example of what he described as poor leadership.

“In my opinion, yes, I think his time is up,” Tebas said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport when asked whether Infantino should resign.

His comments drew divided reactions online. While some users agreed that FIFA needed new leadership and called for term limits for its president, others argued that Infantino had overseen significant changes in world football and was unlikely to leave office, citing his perceived support among national football associations.
